Bluff the Middle Stacks
I used to be a huge advocate of going after the small poker stacks. I figured that since they didn’t have many poker online chips, they’d be easy to buy off of their blinds. However, after enough bad beats, I’ve found that unless you really do want to take them to the river, it’s not a good idea to play against the short stacks. For bluffing purposes, when I just want to buy up the online poker blinds, the medium stack are the way to go. Most of the time, when you play against a short-stacked opponent, any significant raise will force him to go all in, which isn’t good news for you unless you’ve got a great hand. The big stacks are hard to buy off, because they can afford to throw away a few chips on speculative bets. And not only can the afford to call your raises, but they can also rearaise and put you all in on a whim. Now the middle stacked players, they make great targets. Since they can afford to lay down hands, they’re not likely make a desperate all-in move like the small stacks, and unlike the big stacks, they don’t have enough chips to risk calling your bluff.
